TRAILS

Improving public access, safety, and education was strongly supported during the public workshops held in 2012-2013 to update the Los Peñasquitos Lagoon Enhancement Plan. Since Los Peñasquitos Lagoon is a State Marsh Natural Preserve, access must be approved beforehand by California State Parks (CSP) and is usually limited to scientific work and management needs of the Preserve. Several pathways and an established trail (Marsh Trail) exist around the edges of the Lagoon, but they are in relatively poor condition and fragmented in nature. The Los Peñasquitos Lagoon Foundation is working with State Parks and other key stakeholders to improve public access around Los Peñasquitos Lagoon with consideration of sea level rise and other factors. Check out Chapter 8 of the updated Lagoon Enhancement Plan for more information about these improvements (provide link to Chapter 8 of lagoon enhancement plan).

The continued existence of wildlife and wilderness is important to the quality of life in humans.
